Finding your way around

Sajilo is a small window that opens from your menu bar (Mac), system tray (Windows) or top bar (Linux). It doesn’t sit on your taskbar or in the Dock; it waits in the tray and opens when you want it.

Opening and closing it#

On every system, Esc closes it too, unless it’s pinned. Closing only hides the window: Sajilo keeps running, so the radio keeps playing and reminders still arrive.

Right-click the tray icon for a short menu: on Windows and macOS the date, Settings… and Quit Sajilo; on Linux Open Sajilo and Quit Sajilo.

Opening it from the Start menu, Launchpad or your applications menu also works, any time. If Sajilo is already running, its window just comes to the front.

On Linux you can also bind a key to sajilo-desktop --toggle, which opens and closes Sajilo; see tiling window managers.

Keeping it open#

Want Sajilo to stay on screen while you work, with the radio playing, NEPSE in view or the converter handy? Press the pin at the top right of the window, next to the gear. It turns gold.

While it’s pinned:

• It stays open when you click somewhere else, and opening a news link doesn’t hide it.
• Drag it by its top bar to put it anywhere on your screen. On the Today screen, that’s the area with the date.
• It opens in the same place next time, even after a restart.
• The tray icon still puts it away. Esc doesn’t while it’s pinned, so pressing it inside a box or menu never closes Sajilo.

Press the pin again to go back to normal: it closes when you click away, and opens by the tray icon again.

Mini view#

Want the date on your desktop without the whole window? Press Mini view (the two inward arrows, next to the pin). Sajilo shrinks to a small strip with today’s date in BS and AD, Nepal time and one more line, the next festival or holiday to start with. It pins itself, so it stays put; drag it anywhere.

• Click the second line to show something else: the next festival or holiday, the weather, the NEPSE index, the dollar rate, or the radio station while it’s playing. The same choice is in Settings › Display › Mini view.
• Press the outward arrows on the strip to open the full view again. It stays pinned.
• Unpin, and it’s back to the normal popover.
• It remembers mini or full, and where you put it, after a restart.

The tabs#

Along the bottom of the window:

Today and Tools are always there. The others can be switched off in Settings › Modules if you don’t use them; a switched-off tab disappears and stops sending reminders.

Settings and quitting#

On the Today screen, the icons at the top right are Keep open (the pin), Settings (the gear) and Quit (the power button). Other screens have the pin and the gear at the top right too. Quit closes Sajilo completely, until you open it again or restart the computer.

Starting with your computer#

Sajilo turns on Launch at login the first time it runs, so the date is there every day. Started at login, it waits quietly in the tray. To turn this off: Settings › Display › Startup › Launch at login. Once you turn it off, it stays off.
